Living in an RV has become increasingly popular over the last few years. More and more people are considering this lifestyle because they want to save money, be free of a mortgage, or just enjoy being able to travel with their home. According to a recent survey by AARP, 11% of adults aged 50-plus live in an RV at least part-time.
However, many people who have never lived this type of lifestyle don’t understand what it is like and may not know how much it costs compared to living in an apartment. Here’s some information about what you can expect if you choose to go the RV route:
-RVs are a lot like apartments in that they have kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces. The difference is the size of an RV can be much smaller than your typical apartment which means it will cost less to live there each month
-The average monthly rent for one bedroom apts ranges from $800-$1200 while you could spend around $200-$300 per month on an RV
-You’ll need to pay for gas, electricity and water which will cost you less than living in a house or apartment. You may also have some monthly fees like insurance that are specific only if your vehicle is not self contained (meaning it has plumbing).
-The average person spends about 30% of their income each year towards housing costs so with this information we can see how much cheaper RVs might be than apartments depending upon what size home they live within!
For example: If someone earns 40K annually then he/she could spend up to 12k more by choosing RV life over renting one bedroom apartments at 1200$ /month.
-RVs are also more affordable than homes because they have lower property taxes and insurance rates, which can save you up to $1000 per year!
Is RV living safe?
Many people are drawn to RV living because they believe it’s a stress-free lifestyle. The idea of waking up in a new place every morning and being able to go wherever you want for the day sounds like pure freedom.
But is RV life really safe?
There are many risks that come with this type of lifestyle, from having your vehicle stolen or broken into, to not knowing where you’re going at night and getting lost on unfamiliar streets.
The statistics show that there’s an increased risk of injury too – from falls while climbing in or out of the rig, tripping over objects left outside the vehicle, slipping on uneven ground near water sources (such as rivers) when filling tanks with potable water, etc.
Is RV living expensive?
The average RV cost is around $25,000. This can be expensive for a lot of people that are just starting off and need to invest in other things like education or savings.
RV’s are also not easy to find if you’re looking for something specific, so you’ll have to do some research before throwing your money away on a vehicle that won’t suit your needs.
If you want an RV but don’t have the funds now then it might be worth saving up because when you’re retired there’s nothing better than spending your days exploring the country in peace and comfort!
What is boondocking?
Boondocking is a term that describes the act of camping without any hookups to electricity, water or sewer. It’s also called dry camping and free camping.
The boondocking process is as simple as picking your destination, packing up your gear and driving there. Once you arrive at your destination you can set up camp anywhere in the area instead of paying for hotel rooms or RV sites with hookups.
Boondocking is a great way to save money on your RV lifestyle. You can camp for free and spend less than you would if staying in hotels or paying the high cost of an RVer site with hookups at popular destinations like national parks, state forests, etc.
RV Living Pros and Cons
Living in an RV has its pros and cons. The most obvious pro is the financial aspect, which can be a huge plus for anyone who doesn’t have the means to afford their own home or even just needs a break from rent.
The biggest con of living in an RV is lack of privacy. If you live with someone else they’ll have to share your space as well as any appliances that are inside, so if there’s anything that might make them uncomfortable it would be important to discuss this before moving in together.
Another con is that you’re limited to where your RV can go. If there’s no place for an RVer site with hookups nearby, then it might be difficult or impossible depending on the length of time needed and how far away from home they are willing/able to drive each day in order just get electricity at night so their fridge will work properly while sleeping inside during cold weather months.
What every RV needs.
Do you enjoy camping, but are tired of packing up all your gear every time? An RV is the perfect solution for people who want to camp, but don’t want to break their back.
What does an RV need?
An RV needs a place to sleep and cook food. It needs storage space for clothes and other items. It also needs a way to power the lights and TV at night. The best RVs have plenty of room inside so that you can live comfortably while on the road!
Is RV living dangerous?
RV living can be dangerous because of the unknown. You could find yourself in a situation that you are not prepared for, such as getting stranded with no food and water or being exposed to extreme weather conditions.
The best way to prepare is by doing your research; learn about where you will be going and what the climate is like there.
RV living where to park.
One of the most common questions we get is where to park an rv. There are many places that allow overnight parking in a motorhome, camper or trailer. One of the best resources for finding free and low cost campsites is www.freecampsites.net
How many solar panels do I need to power my RV?
We all know that living on the road can be difficult. One of the most important things to have is a reliable source of power for your RV, but there are many factors to consider when determining how many solar panels you need.
The first thing you should do is figure out your current power consumption in watts. For example, if you only use 100 watts during the day and 200 at night this would be considered low-consumption usage with a total wattage of 300, which will require around 8 solar panels.
However, if your usage is more like 50 watts during the day and 500 at night then it would take around 20 solar panels to meet your needs – obviously you don’t have the room!
This information can help determine how many batteries or generators are needed to store enough energy for when it’s dark outside so that lights don’t need running off an inverter all evening long!
Batteries also have different amp hours (AH) ratings – these tell us about their storage capacity: A battery with a rating of 100AH will store enough energy to power lights for about 12 hours.
A battery with 200 AH would be able usefully run the same load (lights) 24 times as long – or more if you are using less than full capacity each time!
The higher-capacity batteries can also provide backup in case your solar panels stop working and it’s dark outside, but they cost significantly mote money upfront so make sure that this is something worth considering before buying them.
It might not seem like much at first glance when comparing an RV living expense versus renting out another apartment; however there may still exist hidden costs such as insurance on both vehicles which could add up quickly over years without being accounted for.
Do you need a deep cycle battery for your RV?
Most RVs use a 12-volt battery. It is important that you get the right size and type of battery to ensure that it can provide enough energy to power all of the appliances in your RV.
If your rig has an inverter, then you will want to get a deep cycle or marine battery, which are designed for continuous discharge and have more amperage than standard batteries.
If you are not sure what type of battery to get, then it is best that your RV dealer can help. They will be able tell which size and voltage the vehicle needs as well if a deep cycle or marine style would work better for its application in an Rv setting.
How to find free boondocking sites
I’ve been traveling the country for a year, and I have found that there are some free boondocking sites out there. It’s possible to find these sites by using forums such as rvboondockers.com or google maps.
